Esco Banton, born Foster Isibor on April 23 in Nigeria, West Africa currently resides in the United States of America. When Yetti-Murl, a rap artist signed to LaVista Records introduced Esco Banton to the CEO, Pius as the producer of several of his (Yetti’s) songs on his independently recorded album, little did Pius know that Esco was exceptionally gifted in dance hall reggae, culture and reggaeton. Pius could not fail, however, to see Esco as an artist. Esco naturally has that image that would allow even the novice A&R to spot him as an artist two football court lengths away. It wasn’t surprising to Pius then when he heard Esco’s own recorded projects that sounded that they were supposed to be on the radio.
Esco’s influences are Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Cutty Ranks and Shabba Ranks. However, Esco’s style varies from that of his idol reggae stars in that Esco prefers to mix the reggae style vocals with the Dirty South Hip-hop beats, introducing a whole new genre of reggae. Call it dance hall south Esco’s career goals as an artist are to have a good time recording and producing, making available to his fans songs that are loaded with conscious, uplifting, and original messages, especially, songs that will elevate and respect women. Esco seeks also to blend the best aspects of the old school with the best aspects of the new school. In a nutshell, Esco plans to sing about love, promote awareness bring a sense of reality to his fans.
Esco considers himself as a worldwide artist with something for everyone who loves reggae and intends to transcend all racial and ethnic barriers. Esco’s philosophy is that, in order to be creative, one has to know less in order to have room to grow and have the drive to learn to discover new things. It is this principle that has helped to mold Esco into a very modest, respectful, and respectable artist.
Esco’s debut album is underway and will be available to the public in 2007. |
